Eco-Conscious Travelling Habits

Adopting these habits will reduce your impact and help to protect Australia's unique environment, whilst making your travels more meaningful, leading by example.

Pack Light & Eco Friendly

Travel with reusable items such as a water bottle, coffee cup, cutlery and shopping bags to reduce single-use plastics. A small change can make a big difference!

Use reef-safe/marine friendly sunscreen to protect marine life, especially when visiting natural waterholes or pristine places such as Ningaloo or the Great Barrier Reef.

'Leave No Trace'

Take all your rubbish with you, especially at National Parks and beaches.

Stick to marked tracks and trails to protect fragile ecosystems. Abide by the rules and signs provided by local councils or National Parks.

Use biodegradable soaps and shampoos, particularly when camping.

Look After Wildlife

Avoid disturbing wildife in their natural habitats.

Avoid feeding or touching wildlife to ensure they remain healthy.

Donate to a local wildlife centre. Visit and volunteer.

Participate in Eco-Conservation Activities

Join a beach clean-up or volunteer with local environmental groups.

Support Indigenous tours, businesses and individuals to learn about sustainable practises and cultural heritage.

Slow Down!

Spend more time in fewer places.

Embrace nature based activities such as swimming, snorkelling, surfing, hiking, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, cycling or activities with a low impact on the natural environment.

Choose Sustainable Transportation

Opt to walk, run, or cycle where possible. Many Australian cities and towns have fantastic bike-share options and pedestrian friendly foot-paths.

Choose public transport over private transport where possible. It's a beautiful way to discover new places and to engage with new places and local people.

Use fuel efficient or electric vehicles for road-trips.

When flying, chose diret flights to reduce your carbon footprint and consider carbon-offset programs, provided by most Australian airlines.

Use Technology to Plan Responsibly

Use apps to find eco-friendly accomodation and map public transport routes.

Check for updates on National Parks and download state emergency apps to monitor the weather and warnings in your area.
