BEACHES OF BYRON
Byron Bay's Main Beach is the town's most accessible stretch of coastline, offering golden sands, clear blue waters and a vibrant atmosphere! Located at the heart of Byron (end of Jonson Street) Main Beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing and enjoying stunning sunrises and sunsets. With life-guard patrols all year-round, it is a safe spot for families, while gentle waves make it ideal for beginner surfers, when the conditions are right. The beachfront and grassy areas provide a great place to relax, enjoy a picnic and listen to live music and entertainment from local buskers.
Belongil is just North of Byron's Main Beach but offers an escape from the busy crowded sands, closer to town. Belongil is a favoured beach spot for long beach walks, swimming and surfing. The beach is home to The Wreck, a popular surf break and snorkelling / dive site where remnants of the SS Wollongbar can be seen. With a pet friendly section, Belongil is a great place for dog owners that want to go to the beach with their best mate. Home to local folk, Belongil Beach is home to Treehouse on Belongil - a fantastic restaurant for coffee, pizza and cocktails, before or after your day at the beach!
The Pass is one of Byron Bay's most iconic beaches and world-renowned surf-breaks. Nestled between Cape Byron the headlands, The Pass offers consistent waves that attract surfers from near and far! Perfect for all levels of surfing skill from beginners to professionals. Surrounded by lush vegetation, the turquoise waters on a warm, sunny day are perfect for swimming. At low tide, water remains in shallow crevises creating the perfect swim spots for families with young ones. Nearby, The Pass Cafe offers a relaxing spot to enjoy the view whilst devouring a delicious meal with a laid-back vibe.
Wategoes Beach and Little Wategoes are two stunning, sheltered coves nestled at the base of Cape Byron. Known for their calm waters and scenic beauty, both beaches offer a peaceful escape from the more crowded areas of Byron Bay's shorelines. Wategoes is perfect for swimming, long-boarding (surfing), picnicing and relaxing in the sun while the more secluded Little Wategoes is ideal for quiet reflection and meditation. Surrounded by lush greenery and with views of the iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse, both beaches provide a serene setting for dolphin spotting and whale watching during migration season.
Cozy Corner is a hidden gem tucked away on the Southern side of the Cape Byron Headland. Surrounded by rocks and vegetation, the beach feels like a secluded paradise, perfect for a peaceful retreat. When the conditions are working, the waves are great for intermediate - seasoned surfers, with a strong rip (tidal current) accelerating the process of paddling out to the line-up. Un-patrolled by life-guards, swimming here is at your own risk and is only appropriate for swimmers that can read the weather patterns and understand the dangers associated with Mother Ocean. Know your limits and stay where you can stand in the water.
Down the road from Byron Bay you'll find a charming coastal villiage also known for its relaxed vibe and coastal charm. Lennox is a long stretch of coastal sand, perfect for swimming, surfing, beachwalks, dogs, kids and nature lovers. With plenty of wildlife and walking tracks to explore it's the perfect alternative to Byron's hustle and bustle. Lennox point is one of Australia's best surf breaks, offering the best right-hand break in the region. Lennox Headland is a stunning natural landmark that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding coastline and lush hinterland. This is the perfect place for nature walks, sunrise and sunset.
